Glasswork in the Schwarzacher Gate

Climbing up the narrow stairs of the oldest tower from Sommerach built in 1486 you get an impressive view of the work with glass, presented over three floors. The artist Petra Markert says: The tower is for curious, art loving and bon vivant people. She works mainly with glass, because it is fascinating her, especially in combination with light. Every piece is individual and handmade from paintings in glass, sculptures in light and jewellery, made with pieces of a Bocksbeutelbottle. So you can buy for example a Silvanerbottle-Necklace. To make the tour perfect, you can enoy a glass of wine in the tower.

I really enjoyed learning about the glasswork in the Schwarzacher Gate because it highlights the beauty and craftsmanship behind historical art. During one of my history-related projects, I wanted to do my assignment while balancing different subjects at university. It gave me more time to appreciate cultural heritage, and this article is a great reminder of why preserving traditional artwork is so important.
